Six CFSP Funeral Directors

Lindsey (Jonkhoff) Rogers has recently qualified for the designation of Certified Funeral Service Practioner (CFSP) by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service. Dan Jonkhoff, John Roeser, Rick Harkert, Adam Hilt and Chris Jonkhoff all recently requalified for recertification of this prestigious CFSP designation. Dan Jonkhoff is a lifetime member of the Academy. A number of professions grant special recognition to members upon completion of specified academic and professional programs and CFSP is funeral service’s national individual recognition.

The Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice, since its 1976 founding, has had as its goals: 1) to recognize those practitioners who have voluntarily entered into a program of personal and professional growth 2) to raise and improve the standards of funeral service and 3) to encourage practitioners to make continuing education a life-long process in their own self interest, the interest of families they serve and the community in which they serve.

To initially receive this award, the practitioner must complete a 180 hour program of continuing education activities and events. In addition, the practitioner is required to accumulate 20 hours per year to recertify. Credits are awarded by the Academy for work leading to personal and/or professional growth in four areas including 1) academic activities 2) professional activities 3) career review and 4) community and civic activities.

13th NFDA Pursuit of Excellence Award

The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home received it’s 13th consecutive National Funeral Director Association’s Pursuit of Excellence Award on October 24, 2011 in Chicago, Illinois. Only 147 firms earned this award which placed the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home among the top two percent of funeral service providers in the United States. Pursuit of Excellence Award recipients raise the bar on funeral service excellence by adhering to the highest ethical and professional standards and providing outstanding service to families and communities.

Garden Bloom

Peg’s gardens are beautiful this time of year as evidenced by this huge hydrangea bloom! If on Sixth Street, you are invited to leisurely stroll the funeral home grounds and savor the unique sense of peace found only in a garden.

Funeral Services in the Garden

Funeral services are held on occasion in the gardens of the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home during the summer months. Special garden seating, sound system and refreshments are planned according to the wishes of the family.

A colorful impatient annual border was recently planted by Terra Bella’s crew.

According to the book, Historic Traverse City Houses, the gazebo was once the bell tower from the old frame school built in 1877. When the school was torn down in 1885 to make room for the current Central Grade School, the bell tower was salvaged and today resides just one block north as a magnificent gazebo in this peaceful garden setting.

Peg Jonkhoff had the privilege of creating the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2010 Distinquished Service Award winner DVD as featured below. It was presented during the Chamber’s Annual Dinner on January 28, 2011. Peg currently serves as Chairperson of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. Peg truly believes it is “the people” that sets our area apart from all the rest considering it one of her many blessing to call it “home” from day one.

Funeral Service Webcasts

Our funeral home is streaming funeral services live on the internet. Live webcasts make it possible for those who can not attend feel as if they are present at the service. Family members from as far away as France and Germany have been able to be a part of their loved one’s funeral service. One family member recently sent us an email as follows, “We thank you so very much for streaming the ceremony so that we could attend the service even though we were about a thousand miles away. It was as if we were right there in the room with the service.” Another called to let us know how wonderful it was and how thankful they were to be able to “be at the service” via the webcast.
