Perry Hannah, Traverse Citys founding father, began construction on his magnificent “retirement home” in September of 1891.  It was designed by W.G. Robinson of Grand Rapids,Michigan.  A blue print of the first floor is one of the many treasures found in the home.   Forty to sixty men worked on his Victorian dwelling which was completed in 1893.  The house is Queen Anne in style with its hip roof, gables, corner turret and tesselated windows (mosaic patterned).

It served as the Hannah family residence until 1934 when Elsie donated the home to the American Legion.  After a fire at the nearby Traverse City Central School, it temporarily served as a school from 1934 to 1937.   In 1937, Harry Weaver purchased the building and moved his funeral home from Union to Sixth Street, a much more appropriate setting for the bereaved of our community.  The Jonkhoff family acquired the funeral home in 1976.  The entire Jonkhoff family and caring staff proudly continue the tradition of excellence in funeral service at this Traverse City landmark.

We invite you to experience a virtual tour of this historic home and gardens.  A detailed brochure is available at the funeral home.
